It’s 2019 and skin is IN. Nothing is more timeless or sophisticated than natural beauty, which is why we’re seeing an emergence of a fresh, natural ‘no-makeup’ look that’s just as relevant today, as it was centuries ago. Whether you’re wearing something casual, or something glamorous, you can’t really go wrong looking natural and radiant. But this kind of minimal look isn’t achieved by just walking out the door without makeup. Creating the illusion of “fresh and naturally beautiful” still requires a little effort, but it’s definitely worth it. Here’s our 5 tips for achieving a flawless, fresh faced look that can withstand the summer heat. Healthy Skin Beautiful makeup starts with healthy skin. The best way to keep your skin healthy is by eating fresh, healthy foods, staying hydrated with plenty of H2O, keeping the skin oxygenated through some form of physical exercise, and avoiding oil-producing foods like fried foods and dairy. Also; be careful with the sun, and remember to remove your makeup before going to bed every night! The better your skin is, the more likely you are to be able to pull off the no-makeup look since it’s really about taking healthy skin and making it look healthier. 2. Prime time becca If you want your makeup to last, the first (and possibly most overlooked/underrated) product to start with is not a moisturizer, but a primer. Please note; Moisturizer + Primer = too much product for the face, which will only create the perfect conditions for a makeup meltdown later in the day when you start to sweat. A good primer should do both jobs. For this reason, we love Bobbi Brown’s Vitamin Enriched Face Base. Rich in feel but never greasy, this advanced formula combines the moisturizing power of shea butter with vitamins B, C, & E and instantly hydrates, softens and cushions skin. Best of all, it’s completely paraben-free, phthalate-free, sulfate-free, gluten-free, and vegan. Its fragrance leaves a light, uplifting scent which our clients absolutely love. The skin around the eyes is thinner and more sensitive than the rest of the face, so you’ll want to use a special primer underneath, and around the eyes. We love the Anti-Fatigue Undereye Primer by Becca. This caffeine-infused formula will awaken tired eyes, while reducing the appearance of dark circles, puffiness, and fine lines. 3. Light it up concealer Concealer is the one product that, when chosen correctly, can instantly lift and brighten the face. Choose a color that’s one to two shades lighter than your actual skin tone, and avoid using creamy (oil-based) concealers during the summer months. These tend settle in the creases of your eyes, and the oils in the formula will make even the best waterproof mascara run. We personally love the Pro-Longwear Concealer by Mac. It’s a lightweight, water-resistant, fluid formula that provides great coverage, and a comfortable, smooth finish that’s made to last up to 15 hours! This concealer is no joke, and best of all, it’s acnegenic, which means that it will not clog your pores or cause breakouts! A little of this stuff goes a long way, so be sure to apply carefully. 4. Shape it up You’ve seen what a great difference a frame can make to a painting, so imagine what framing can do for your face! This is where brows, contour, and color come in. The right colors in the right places truly make a huge difference. img-20170503-wa0009_1513379149029 BROWS: Having beautifully groomed brows is the quickest, and least invasive way to give your eyes an instant lift. Start by shaping and shading them with a product that is not too dark. Brownish gray shades work best on most people, but ultimately, the right color will greatly depend on your hair color. We recommend using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer. The shape of the pencil makes it easy to fill in the brows, and find the right angles. This pencil also comes with an eyebrow brush on the opposite end, which makes the shaping process much easier. anastasia CONTOUR: Cream pigments are truly the way to go when it comes to creating a natural, summer look. The ultimate ‘J-Lo glow’ can be achieved just by adding depth and color to the face. To shape the face we apply a dark orange-brown cream foundation underneath the cheekbones, on the temples of the forehead, and underneath/along the jaw line. The trick to applying this product, like with any kind of makeup is -you guessed it -Blending thoroughly! Keep smoothing it into your skin so that it mixes with the natural oils and so that you don’t end up with darker patches anywhere. You may also apply this product underneath the nose (to shorten) and along the sides (to narrow). BLUSH: An important part of this look is creating healthy, flush colored cheeks. Using your fingers apply a cream blush or stain to the apples of your cheeks. Be sure to blend until all the colors are married together, and there is a smooth transition of colors. contour-2 5. Set it and forget it! The goal is to keep the look as natural as possible, so avoid applying a lot of color to the eyes. Instead, use a small, flat/fluffy brush to apply a matte, light yellow setting powder underneath the eyes, and over the lids. This is makeup’s best-kept secret. This little trick will not only keep your concealer from creasing, but will also conceal any puffiness, while adding luminosity at the same time! You’ll also want to mattify your entire T-zone with a long-lasting setting powder like Clinique’s Stay Matte Sheer Pressed Powder. To finalize your look just add waterproof mascara to your top and bottom lashes, and some stain or tinted moisturizer to your lips and voila! You’re good to go! By using these products and techniques your look is not only guaranteed to last, but you will also look fresher, and more youthful no matter what your age is! The first thing people should notice when they look at you is how radiant and stunning you look, not your makeup. More often than not, less is more when it comes to makeup, but for most of us, wearing less makeup is easier done when you have great skin. Few people have naturally perfect skin. The condition of the skin changes from day to day and season to season, but YOU can always improve it by taking good care of yourself. Beautiful skin begins with a healthy lifestyle. Skincare basics include: *NUTRITION -Your diet has a direct impact on not only your overall health and how you feel, but also on how you look. The health of your skin begins with good nutrition. New, living cells continually replace the dead cells on the surface of the skin. The growth of new cells is dependent on vitamins, minerals and hydration. -Eat at least 5 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables every day -Also include whole-grain foods, nuts, fish, and beans in your diet. -They are all foods rich in zinc, which promotes healing and reduces inflamation in the body. *HYDRATION -Our bodies are 80% water. Without sufficient hydration the cells become dry and flaky. To keep the body and skin hydrated, eat foods with high water content such as: fruits, vegetables, and clear soups, and drink at least 8 glasses of water per day. Limit your intake of coffee and other drinks containing caffeine, as well as alcohol, as they are diuretics that remove water from the body and block the absorbtion of vitamins and minerals. *EXERCISE -Raising the heart rate through vigorous exercise increases blood flow, brings more oxygen to the skin, and cleanses impurities from the body through sweat. Just 20-30 minutes of exercise per day is enough to help boost your immune system, reduce stress, lower blood pressure, strengthen your heart, build stronger bones, increase your energy level, and improve your mood. With regular exercise, you build lean muscle mass and raise your metabolism. Since the metabolism slows with age, exercise is fundamental to weight management. *SLEEP -Sleep is the time when your body heals itself. This is when your cells have a chance to repair and regenerate. Sleep deprivation stresses all of the body’s systems, including the skin. Without enough sleep the skin becomes less elastic and prone to outbreaks of acne or rashes. -Try applying plenty of eye-cream around your eyes before going to bed, to wake up with less puffyness around the eyes in the morning. -Washing your face with cold water in the morning acts as a natural toner for your face, not to mention it helps to wake up! -Be sure not to overload on face washes either, as too much of a good thing can actually irritate your skin more than help it! *SUN -Excess sun exposure is skin’s #1 enemy. It causes premature aging, including wrinkles, loss of elasticity, and hyperpigmentation. -Always remember to wear SPF under your every-day makeup! -Try an every-day mosituriser with SPF under your makeup, OR simply replace your every-day morning moisturiser with an oil-free sunblock. There are some great unscented, brands out there. I use Coppertone’s oil-free Faces -SPF 30. It’s fragrance-free and leaves skin with a matted look that’s perfect before applying makeup. *Wearing moisturiser AND sunblock might be too heavy and may leave you looking greasy as well as making it difficult for the makeup to hold, so i recommend choosing one or the other. *SMOKE AND ALCOHOL -Smoke and alcohol robs your skin of oxygen and dehydrates it which causes you to age prematurely, and also causes the skin to look dull and gray over time. With low levels of oxygen, they skin loses elasticity, which leads to sagging and wrinkling. -You will notice as you get older that it is much easier to spot people who have drank and smoked their entire lives. They definitely look much much older than they really are!! *EXFOLIATE!!! -Exfoliating your face is like dusting your house. It’s not going to look clean and shiny unless you clean the layer of dust (dead skin) over it from time to time, so always remember to exfoliate your face 2-3 times a week for a radiant and fresh appearance!
